The .Pro Registry has released the first 12 three-character strings for auction starting November 16.  This appears to be a bit of a test as they do not include the most desirable strings one might associate with licensed professionals.  Included in the list are:

eco.pro

dog.pro

dui.pro

ale.pro

eye.pro

tea.pro

ask.pro

run.pro

sax.pro

ear.pro

hip.pro

ssl.pro

If interested, you need to submit a starting bid by November 15, 2010 at 8pm California, USA time.  Namejet is conducting the auction at: http://www.namejet.com/Pages/Promos/Promo_dotPRO_1.aspx

  1. I’ve discussed this with some other .pro domain developers and we are all pretty uncertain about this auction. Most agree that .pro could use more active promotion and general raise of awareness of the extension as well as difficulty understanding how to comply with the professional registration requirements. That is seen as an hurdle for growth of the .gtld.

However, I personally love the extension and don’t know why it hasn’t grown faster. This doesn present an excellent opportunity for new investors seeking to get into solid domain names as many are available in .pro that aren’t available in any other .tld

I certainly hope the auction goes well as there have been a string of recent .pro sales in the triple digits.
